Question Type: Tetrad
Overview
Tetrad test is a discrimination test type that helps you determine if there is a difference between two products by asking
panelists to group 4 samples into 2 groups of 2.
Unlike most other question types, the Tetrad question is not available as an option to add in a test. Instead, our pre-set Tetrad test type template is available to you to use in a click of a button, with the Tetrad question already included in it!
If during the test update you accidentally delete the question, don't worry. It will become available in the list of questions to add back into your test.
When you create a new Tetrad test, there are various options available in the Tetrad question to help you meet your
data collection and analysis needs. In this workflow you will learn
about these options and how to apply them.
Name Your Question
The Tetrad question included in the Tetrad test type template has the following default name: Add question name.
The purpose of such name is to prompt you to enter something more descriptive. If you do not enter anything differently, this default question name will be visible in your reports, and it might be visible to your panelists, depending on the Question options selected. We recommend that you update the Tetrad question name with more descriptive text.
- In the Build tab of your test, click in the Add question name box and replace the default name with your own text.
- To save the change, click outside of the Question name box (anywhere on the screen).
Provide Instructions to Panelists
The Tetrad question is distributed with pre-set default instructions to panelists. We recommend that you review the default instructions and update them as needed to suit your testing needs.
- To view the instructions, on the right side of the Question name, click Expand page.
Alternatively, you can click on the three blue vertical dots and select Expand question.
With either method, the question instructions will become visible to you. - To edit the instructions, click anywhere inside the instructions text. A Text Editor and its editing tools will be enabled for you to use.
- To save the changes, click outside of the Text Editor (anywhere on the screen).
Use the Text & images and Time delay screens if you would like to provide additional instructions to your panelists, either before or after they see the Tetrad question.
Update Group Names
The Tetrad question included in the Tetrad test type template has the following default group names for both groups of samples: Group.
If you do not enter anything differently, these default group names
will be visible in your reports and to your
panelists. We recommend that you update the group names with more descriptive text.
- In the Question options of your Tetrad question, in the Display tab, type new names in the Group name a and Group name b fields.
- Click Save to save the changes.
Alternatively, you can click off of the Question options panel (anywhere on the screen) to save the changes.
Tell Panelists at the End How They Performed
For
training purposes, you can enable the feedback feature to tell
panelists whether they grouped the samples correctly. It is not
recommended to provide feedback in real sample testing.
The steps below will guide you in providing feedback at the end of your test. This means that if there are Time delays, or follow up Comment, or follow up Choose questions in your test, the feedback will be displayed to the panelists after the time delays and follow up questions. If there are no time delays and follow up questions, the feedback will be displayed immediately after the Tetrad question.
If you are training your panelists, this setup is recommended. It will eliminate a possibility that the feedback will influence panelist response to the follow up questions.
- In the Question options of your Tetrad question, in the Options tab, click the Show feedback dropdown list.
- Select End of cycle.
- Review the Correct feedback text and Incorrect feedback text. Make any changes as necessary.
- Click Save to save the changes.
Alternatively, you can click off of the Question options panel (anywhere on the screen) to save the changes.
Tell Panelists Immediately How They Performed
For training purposes, you can enable the feedback feature to tell panelists whether they grouped the samples correctly. It is not recommended to provide feedback in real sample testing.
The steps below will guide you in providing feedback immediately after the Tetrad question. If there are Time delays, or follow up Comment, or follow up Choose questions in your test, the feedback will be displayed to the panelists before time delays and follow up questions.
This setup may influence panelist response to the follow up questions.
- In the Question options of your Tetrad question, in the Options tab, click the Show feedback dropdown list.
- Select Immediately following question.
- Review the Correct feedback text and Incorrect feedback text. Make any changes as necessary.
- Click Save to save the changes.
Alternatively, you can click off of the Question options panel (anywhere on the screen) to save the changes.
