What is it?

Panelist Rank Orders is one of the sheets in the Descriptive Analysis Workbook . Rating scores are converted to ranks for your panel and panelists.

Why would I use it?

Review panel agreement in intensity ranking without needing to adjust for scale usage.

Setup options



To generate the Panelist Rank Orders sheet, under 2. Select Options , select Panelist rank orders.

The Analysis Options from Defaults area indicates what your default selections for ANOVA model and post hoc test are. If a change is necessary, click Change Advanced Analysis Options .
 




Analysis Overview

If the Panelist Rank Orders is the first sheet in your Descriptive Analysis Workbook , then you will see a statement similar to the following:
" Analysis performed using analysis of variance (2-way) with samples X panelists interaction and Tukey's HSD at alpha=0.05 ".

Often Product Means Radar Graphs  is the first sheet. We provided more details about the above statement in the workflow for the Product Means Radar Graphs sheet.




  1. Tukey's HSD 0.05 . Multiple comparison from the selected analysis.
  2. Mean Rank . The average of all the panelist ranks for the given attribute/sample.
  3. Panelists . The sample with the highest intensity will be ranked 1. In case of a tie, where two or more samples are ranked identically, the rank will be split between the samples.
Samples are ordered by their Mean Rank score.

Example Conclusion

By looking at the Mean Rank for Fresh Apple Aroma we can see that Apple Juice 2 was consistently ranked 2 by all panelists. We know this because the Mean Rank is a whole number, as well as by reviewing each panelist's results. We know that none of the other samples were consistently ranked for this attribute.
From Tukey's HSD, we know that the ranking of first, second and third are not significantly different from each other.
